10 reviews for STRIX Z270E GAMING Motherboard

  1. Avalir

Ok so I’m going to be completely fair here. I got the board. had everything hooked up properly(even checked with a tech friend at a local computer shop) and i was getting No POST on starting up. After searching on the webz for a possible solution i found everything possibility from bent cpu pins to dead ram slots and even poor power supply. So I began testing…My MoBo would light up, fans would come on, and that was it(aside from the HDD humming a bit) and no visuals from hdmi, display port, or vga( had a 1080 hooked up) tried both integrated graphics and the 1080s options. I found a bunch of articles saying try unplugging everything EXCEPT the MoBo power supply, cpu power supply, and cpu fan. WELL… that didn’t work. on to the next test.I hooked the MoBo up to my wifes desktop power supply(an evga 750W) still same results. Hooked up my psu to her desktop and it fired right up. So no issues there(Mine is a “Beast 700w” or somehting like that)Well finally after several hours of unhooked rehooking, trying everything i found on the webz. I finally came across an article that said a kid had dead ram slots. saying the LED on built onto the board was constantly lit, meaning there was an issue with ram. Well sure enough, i turned mine on, and there it was just as ORANGE as you please bright as the sun. I have ordered a new one and requested a return label for the old. I will update this review if the new one performs well, But for now i have to give this a one star for D.O.A. Sorry Asus***UPDATE***So after getting the new motherboard in, all I really had to do was plug in the cpu, ram and cables. It fired right up. I’m guessing the other was just defective as I assumed. Now that that is over. I can give a quick rundown of my first impressions. The RGB on the shroud is very nice, not too bright so no complaints there. All of the components on my case( the Cougar Evolution) plugged right into to it and work properly including the top fan control. POST took no time at all, installed windows 10 using USB drive and was up and running in a matter of 15 minutes. I’m really impressed with this board so far.

Great motherboard for the price, I read all the other reviews and they all seem to be for other boards.. This is STRICTLY for Z270F… The board came NEW, install was easy… Paired it up with a 960 evo M. 2, MSI 1070,32 Gig GSkill Trident 3200…Win 10,and a Tempered glass case from AZZA… Posted instantly, had no problems with drivers, RAM or any other issues with this board, the Aura lights are the bomb, and can’t wait to hook up more… Also added was a Thermaltake Riing 3.0 water AIO Cooler.. And keeps the 7600k I put in it at 5.01ghz!!!!…THATS RIGHT 5.01 GHZ… There’s a setting in the bios that autoclocks the chip to 5ghz, if you hit the silicon lottery, like I did, you can clock the 7600k to 5ghz with this board… Good luck, enjoy the board, and get you processor from Amazon too… I think they have all the good silicone..

  3. ASUS Support

3 stars because the board died after a week. Asus customer service HUNG UP on me. But the second guy actually took the time to try to diagnose what was going on. We confirmed it was a dead board and got a replacement. Will reply once the board arrives. Besides that it’s a great board with alot of nice features. WiFi/Bluetooth, USB-type c. Was able to get my 7700k to 4.8ghz at 1.3v but didn’t have anymore time to mess with it since it died.*Edit* I received my new board and sent back my new one. Working like a charm and have a stable OC @5Ghz-1.30v. I’m sure i can get it tuned lower but it’s fine the way it is now. 5 stars now because amazon has great customer service.

Chose this over the Z270E model because it offered the same features for a bit less, no wi-fi (which I didn’t really need), no annoying light effects (which would be wasted in my windowless, soundproofed case) and a couple extra USB slots.Only had it for a week at the time of writing, but it’s run perfectly. BIOS was a bit confusing to navigate at first but it was a quick learn, and I appreciated the extra features like the reinforced GPU slot, easy M2 install and the CPU install tool worked like a charm. One minor complaint was a bit of difficulty mounting it in the case (getting the IO panel and ports to line up, spacing for the screw holes, etc.) but that could have been the case so not marking it down for that.

I tried a couple of Gigabyte boards and both had issues, I had to return them. I then bought up a notch to this mother board. Yes, I it has RGB lighting but in a very classy way, just in the top left corner of the board, you have full access to change the colors, definitely in a understated regal presentation. It come with the usual suspects, free merchandise (gave it to my son), the DVD with all the drivers and utilities, sata cables, a installation tool to place your CPU in without damaging any pins and more things I won’t mention. Set up was a breeze, I installed the board in about 40 minutes, the entire custom rig took me about 3 hours in all. The board is fantastic, I can’t say enough positive things about it.

It’s difficult to find problems with parts when building a new PC and making a significant upgrade with the new build. This motherboard is so far in advance of what I used to have it’s actually funny. Toss in the built-in WIFI and the RGB lighting options and it simply makes me smile.I’ll be honest. I bought this board for two reasons:#1, it offered RGB lighting options. I’m a sucker for lights in a PC, and it started over a decade ago with cold cathode tubes in a time when cases weren’t readily available with windows in them. I had to take a dremel to my own case and put my own window in it! The RGB options mean I don’t have to choose a single color light, and I can change whenever I feel like it. So happy with this feature, and it’s very easy to change.#2, mini ITX. I wanted to build a small PC that would take up less space on my desk. I game a bit, but I’ve never bothered with dual GPU’s and loads of other features in my computers. This was quite simply among the best boards available with RGB lighting in a mini ITX size. The performance of it and the over-clocking potential just means I’m ready to go over the next few years should I ever feel the need to upgrade the CPU.The built-in WIFI works very well. I didn’t need to install the included antenna to get a pretty strong signal. RAM installs easily. There is space for M.2 SSD’s if you want them. I went with a standard SATA SSD, but it’s nice to know the option is there. There is a header for USB3.1, but it’s using a unique connector which I believe is not yet defined as a global standard. Good luck finding a cable / connector to fit it right now, but it’ll be there for you in the future. The USB item does bring up my only complaint, but it was easily solved. There is ONE other USB header on the board. It is USB3.0. It is the old / standard style connector. It is backward compatible to USB2.0. I needed to connect the front case USB and also my NZXT Kraken liquid cooler. I was required to purchase a USB splitter / Y-cable in order to connect both items. Not a big deal, but slightly annoying not realizing this in the first place.

Purchased this board after receiving another brand motherboard that was DOA. Within 20 minutes of receiving the board, it was opened, hooked up, and booted, with zero issues. Awesome experiance after having a frustrating try with the previous brand. The OC function is very easy and user friendly. Only gripe is the manual has wrong illustrations on certain diagrams. Not a big enough issue though to take a star away.

This was a randomly selected motherboard out of all the ones I could use for functionality to build a new PC with. The lights were not something I was paying attention to. It worked with my Intel i7 7700K, used DDR4 RAM, and had enough SATA ports for WAY more storage than I could ever need. As I waited for it to arrive I looked into it a bit more, and found out about the RGB strip. This was a huge plus for me – I am a sucker for beautiful things. I also saw it came with a coaster! Very random, but it was certainly a nice touch.Ah, installation day. After it arrived I waited for everything else, and then I finally built the PC. The IO shield is a shiny aluminum finish – It stood out on my black brushed aluminum case but it still looks nice. I installed the motherboard (having someone hold my cooling block from the AIO I had already installed out of the way) and put the rest of it together. As soon as I turned the PSU on… The RGB strip was lit. Booted it up, the BIOS was very easy to understand and gave me a lot of information. I installed my OS with no mess ups.Skip ahead to five months later, all the components are still working like a charm. I am a gamer, and this board has been able to do everything I want it to. I still have four unused SATA ports! All my ports are in good working condition, and the computer has remained intact even though I’ve moved twice since I built it.I only have two small complaints that I almost don’t feel are worth putting in this review. 1, the RGB strip, although beautiful, stays on even when the PC is off. It’s located in my living room so it doesn’t disturb me when I sleep, but I can imagine this being an annoyance for people, especially teenagers, who have to have their PC in their bedroom. You can turn the strip off in the ASUS Aura settings. 2, the coaster that came with it sticks to my cup if condensation causes it to get wet. Again, very tiny details that don’t really matter in comparison to the raw functionality offered by this motherboard.

  9. Amazon Customer

Great motherboard! The connections, options, and overall capabilities are great. I do wish this board came with 2-4 more USB 3.0 ports. Also for the price they are asking it should have come with more USB headers and USB pass through cables. Not that I bought it for the lights but the different color settings are fun to play with. Otherwise I love this board, it does and offers what I need. I do find it weird though for a board meant for gaming it has WiFi. I realize that is a growing trend for mid to upper level boards, but if you are serious gamer you are hard lining, not wireless.

  10. Henry

The most gorgeous motherboard I’ve laid eyes on. It was love at first sight, 10/10 right swipe. Durable and excellent construction. The led is awesome, bios is easy to use. No issues so far
